In designing the User Interface (UI), the
web designer has to first and foremost anticipate what probable users will need
to do and ensure that the interface has elements that are easy to access,
understand and used to facilitate those actions. The interface but possess some
certain important elements which are the; Input controls, Informational
components, Navigational components and Containers. The overall performance and
desirability of any web site depends on how engaging and structured the home
page it, that is, it’s ability to captivate visitors and keep them glued to the
screen. For that to happen, the web designer has to understand the users of the
site, their goals, skills, preferences and tendencies. A detailed understanding
on the attitudes and behaviors internet users, their choices and factors that
influences decision making.
The website design should be simple,
consistent throughout, take note of spatial relationship and the general page
layout. These are very important because they can make the difference between a
customer choosing a certain website out of several that offer similar services.
There should be strategic use of colors, graphic images and texture, this
should be done to improve usability and clarity. There should be appropriate presentation
of information and choices in a clear and concise way, placing important items
in structured and less ambiguous manner.
The website designer should also take note
of the compatibility of the website to various devices (Desktop, PC, Mobile, iPad)
and their different pixel capability. Also, the native language of the majority
of the users, their diversity and how their various physiological and cognitive
factors influence user experience. Using key words or phases or words that can
be salient and easily searchable online using search engines.

improve accessibility, provide additional information and collect data, this
helps to customize and improve services in lieu to user habits.
